UI / UX designer
Project Overview:
The Carpoolz app was developed as part of my Google Certificate program. It is designed for parents or guardians who lack a consistent schedule or are too busy to pick up their children from school, and for students who need to take the bus but sometimes struggle with the schedules. The app allows parents to find available carpools with other students' parents and set reminders for bus schedules
Role:
Sole UX / UI designer
Project type:
Dedicated mobile app
Project challenge:
Design a prototype app that helps busy parents or guardians who lack a consistent schedule or have a busy schedule, and aren't tech savvy, and students who sometimes struggle with the bus schedules
Methodology:
As the sole UX designer, I conducted moderated usability testing and utilized existing data. My responsibilities included wireframing (low & high fidelity), user research, and applying UX principles to UI design for enhanced usability.
Knowing our main persona ( Emphatize phase )
Persona and Pain Points
Persona: Ronaldo

Age: 34
Education: Some college
Hometown: Chicago
Family: Wife and 2 kids
Occupation: Entrepeneur
Problem statement: Ronaldo, a small entrepreneur with a fluctuating schedule, needs a reliable solution to ensure his children get home safely when meetings run late
Goals:
Wants to pick up the kids from school every day;
Ensuring the safety of their children.
Frustrations:
Occasionally express frustration about bus' schedules
Don't have a great digital literacy
Storyboard:

Oh no, a late
meeting again

I will not be able to pick up my children today.. again :(

What am I going to
do ?

Oh ! the Carpoolz
App !

With this intuitive design I was
able to ask for a carpool in less than
two minutes !

Knowing the app will safely deliver my children home reassures me
Starting the design:
Paper wireframes:

Log-in and Main menu
Carpooling & Driver page
After some work, the first digital wireframes were ready...

Log-in
Main Menu
Carpool menu

Driver's profile
Driver's profile after confirmed Carpool
Designed with simplicity and intuitiveness in mind , minimum amount of buttons with the same appearance
Usability study findings:
Most usability study participants expressed concerns about the location button on the Carpool menu and the confirmation page

"I think the ideal would be to add a better indicator that this is, in fact, a button"
Participant N
"I think it should also confirm the driver's name"
Participant Y

After a round of iteration around the users' feedback and refinement...
Refining the design based on iterations:

Now it's time for the final designs, after all iterations, and ready to launch...
Final Designs
Log-in ( splitted in two )
We reduced on-screen information to minimize confusion, particularly for our users that have limited digital literacy. This change was implemented in the final design.

Carpooling menu & Driver profile
Considering more accessibility to our users, a progress bar was also added giving them feedback on where they are at the journey
